Prescription Lens Technology Update
Dr. Johnson I was wondering if there are newer and lighter lenses to put in my glasses?
Yes there are always advancements being made for lighter, stronger and more scratch resistant lenses. Our office has a computerized lab to make your prescription lenses. If you wish to reuse your old glasses our technology allows you the convenience to take your glasses with you and we will call you when your new lenses are ready. Our office also has a one time lens scratch replacement policy for one year.
Dr. Johnson do you recommend UV coatings on my glasses?
Yes, UV A, B and C can cause permanent damage to your vision and skin. All lenses that we dispense have UV protection whether they are your sunglasses or your clear lenses. It is important to have this coating on all lenses to protect our eyes even on cloudy days.
Dr. Johnson do you recommend polarized lenses for sunglasses or tinted lenses?
I personally wear polarized lenses. They cut more glare and are clearer to see through on sunny and cloudy days. The blue wavelength of visible light is the most permanently damaging to our vision. We are exposed to UV on both sunny and cloudy days that can cause cataracts and macular degeneration. Tinted lenses are acceptable if they have UV coatings applied but are not as clear for outdoor activities as polarized lenses. The UV coatings that we suggest are in compliance and recommended by the American Skin Cancer Foundation to protect eyes and the skin around your eyes.
Dr. Johnson would you recommend the no line bifocals and trifocals?
Yes, I wear them myself. They are easier to adjust to than line bifocals. Prescribed readers are good for a lot of near work to give you a wider field of view but you and the doctor can figure which is best for you.
