Contact Lenses
Our Office fits specialty contact lenses. We fit Daily disposables, Monthly Disposables, Tinted Contact lenses, Bifocal contact lenses that are disposable as well as specialty contact lenses for Astigmatism. We take alot of time by measuring the shape of your eyes to determine which contact lens materials and wearing schedule is most appropriate for your quality of vision and the health of your eyes. We are constantly experimenting with the new contact lens technology as it becomes FDA approved and made available to patients. We have many lenses in stock and also special order lenses which can be delivered to your home and in many cases are shipped overnight.
Dr. Johnson can I get my contact lenses the same day that I come to your office?
We always have trial lenses that we can give to you when you come for your exam and contact lens evaluation. There are many new contact lens types out now and the new lens technology is great. We will want to fit you in the most up to date lens type. If we order your contact lenses, we may mail them directly to you or have you come in for a follow up visit if we fit you in a new lens type.
Dr. Johnson my child keeps losing his glasses and I think we should get contact lenses?
Until the age of 12 years and depending on the maturity of the child would be the earliest age we would recommend contacts. The child needs to learn the need for cleaning and disinfection of their contact lenses and unless done properly can cause eye infections. The other issue is that until this age, we find it is often hard for them to have the dexterity to put on their contact lenses and take them off. Maximum wearing time schedules will be allocated to the wearing of contacts and the child will have to adhere to this so as not to harm their eyes or make their vision worse. Not all vision prescriptions are suitable for contacts as well. Contacts are great for sports and are a suitable alternative to glasses in instances like this.
Dr. Johnson can contact lenses help for playing sports?
Contact lenses are an athlete's dream. Contact lenses can increase peripheral vision. You can easily wear appropriate protective eyewear over them such as goggles or sunglasses. And you can quit worrying about broken frames or lenses. Plus, contact lenses don't fog up, slide down, or fall off.
Dr. Johnson I have an astigmatism and would like to wear soft disposable contacts- can I do so?
Sure, there are numerous contact lens manufacturers that make lenses for astigmatism. An eye exam will determine what type of lens and how much astigmatism you have to see what type of lens you need.
Dr. Johnson I wear contact lenses and keep getting eye infections which I believe are related to my contacts but I also share my makeup-What do you think?
It is very possible that your eye infections may be the result of your not properly disinfecting your contact lenses which we will evaluate during your eye exam. If you do get an eye infection and keep wearing your contact lenses and makeup then you are spreading the bacteria to the makeup and continuing to reinfect yourself. You should not be sharing your makeup. Discard your old makeup, see your eye doctor for medications to treat your eye infection and discontinue wearing your contact lenses. Only wear your contact lenses when your doctor says it’s alright and start with a new pair of lenses.
Dr. Johnson are there new materials for contact lenses that are healthier for my eyes?
Yes there are some that allow much more oxygen to your eyes/cornea that reduce the risk of swelling and scar tissue. These are disposable contact lenses. I feel better about my patients wearing their contacts especially those patients that will not wear their glasses very much. I am still a fan of wearing glasses part of the day and not sleeping in contact lenses except on a rare occasion.
Dr. Johnson, I am tired of wearing bifocal glasses, are there contact lenses that might help me see without always having to wear my glasses?
There are a number of bifocal contact lens options. I have been fitting them for 20 years. We try different combinations to see which may work for you. Not everyone can wear bifocal contact lenses. The vision varies from one person to the next. We let you try them in our office to see if they may work and if they don’t nothing is lost but a little time. We do not order boxes of contact lenses until we see that you are happy with the comfort and vision of the contacts. I always tell people that glasses vision will usually be better than bifocal contact lens vision.
Dr. Johnson I have heard that some people have gotten eye infections from using bad or Brand X contact solutions-Do I need to be careful and just use the solutions that you recommend?
What you heard about was the number of people that lost vision to fungal infections that were contact lens wearers and all happened to use the same solutions. Personal hygiene is very important in wearing contact lenses. People forget that they are an FDA approved medical device. Always wash your hands. Wash around your eye lids and lashes daily with mild soap and warm water. Take your makeup off at night and daily disinfect your contact lenses with new solution and never add new solution to old solutions.
Dr. Johnson my eyes are dry or in the past I have been told that they are dry could I possibly wear contact lenses part of a day or on certain occasions?
It is very possible that you could. We would first test your tear film to make sure that your eyes can comfortably wear contact lenses to see if they are healthy for your eyes. If that is determined to be alright then we will try to find the best lens to work for your needs.
